In 2015, I ran my first marathon and experienced two surprise natural pregnancies and subsequent miscarriages. In the span of 3 months, my body had been through a 26.2, two pregnancies, progesterone therapy and a D&C.
You might be wondering, "Okay, why is this fitness chic sharing all this?"
What I experienced during that season of my life did a number on my self-worth and body image. Infertility had caused me to struggle in the past but miscarriage was different and in the blink of an eye, I was right back to the space where I hated my body. I did not understand why I couldn't do something that so many others seemed to do so easily. I felt broken.
I remember looking at my body in the mirror and seeing the few extra pounds and all the bloating caused by the progesterone. i remember thinking, "You need to do something to make you feel strong again."
So I posted on facebook: "Hey, does anyone have any suggestions for something I can do to complement my running? I'd really like to tone up and lose some of this fluff."
A friend invited me to do a 21 day challenge with her that focused on clean eating, portion control and daily workouts. and so began my journey with Beachbody. I was a huge skeptic. I was so beyond those at home workouts. They didn't really work, right? Plus I was already in shape and ate healthy enough. I was a marathoner, damn it!
But I gave it a try and it really opened my eyes to exactly how much nutrition actually matters. I realized I was eating way too many carbs and processed foods and not enough vegetables and protein. The workouts were only 30 minutes but challenged me in new ways, which helped me see a change in my body that running never gave me. More than that, I was invited into a community of support and encouragement and surrounded by people who truly wanted to see me succeed, who wanted to see me happy and confident. It was the community I never even knew I wanted or needed.
I lost 8 inches in 21 days. while eating more than I had ever eaten and running less than I ever had.
I was a believer. NOW, MORE THAN 2 YEARS LATER, I'M STILL SEEING RESULTS. I loved the community so much that I became a Coach myself and am finally able to love my body for what it is rather than what it isn't.
Beginning on February 19, I will be leading another round of the 21 day program that started it all for me, but that's not all...
Because I'm a huge believer in making health and fitness fun, my challenge will be themed around one of the best sitcomes of the 90s- Friends.
There will be games, there will be giveaways, there will be FRIENDly competition (see what I did there?) and most of all there will be results.
Most people lose an average of 5-8 pounds during this challenge, some more, some less... As long as you're willing to trust me and trust the process, you will see a change within yourself, both physically and mentally.
